    James,

Check with your local vendors and see if they are aware of any possible trade-ins coming their way from any of their courses. When I worked for the city we used to send some pretty decent equipment to our vendors or to local auctions as we tried to replace things before they started falling apart.

Many chapters also have used equipment sections on their chapter website.

    Hope this helps some.

Go to turfnet.com. There's a large selection of used equipment posted.

Your dealers and some of the larger dealers only sell off-lease equipment. My experience is that you can get a 3 or 4 year old piece with low hours that has been reconditioned for about half the cost of new. I have done this on several occasions and have yet to be upset with my decision.

For instance, we just bought an off-demo fairway mower for half the cost of new and it had about 140 hours on it. I have also bought off-lease John Deere Pro Gators for half the cost of new with around 600 hours on them.

For strictly off-lease equipment, I like to deal with Global Turf Equipment. They are one of the largest dealers in the country. I know the guys there personally and they have never let me down. Have even searched for and acquired specific pieces I was looking for.

I have to second Andy on Global Turf. I have purchased several pieces from them and they have been great to deal with.

Is Global firm on their prices on their site or have you been able to work them down some?

Depends on how much you are buying. A single piece may have a few hundred wiggle room. A couple of pieces even more. If you tell them I sent you to them, they might jack the price up even more. Lol.

    Hi James,
If you are looking for a lot of equipment there are quite a few course closings that might be willing to package out their stock. Also courses that have a new superintendent might not want what the previous superintendent had. I always looked at courses that were high budget with nice shops rather than say courses that might have had to skimp on preventive maintenance.
