Sandy, GM might be on how one perceives it, I'm sure it's not all doom and gloom as you say. Heard a guy yesterday when the questions was asked was the GM bailout a give back to the unions, he said no. He based his statement on the fact that the union workers took pay-cuts and other benefit cuts to help GM. Now I haven't researched exactly what the deal was, but I'm sure both sides can find some facts that they think backs up their claims, but the end result as of right now, people are still employed by GM and not unemployed. As far as jobs going to China, I would guess it's similar to the Jeep situation. China in it's economic environment is getting a middle class and they would like vehicles. Yes they are building them in China actually improving their middle class situation so they can sell even more cars (America needs to get that picture). We probably don't have the production capabilities here in the states plus the cost to build and ship would be much higher that the Chinese middle class couldn't afford vehicles we send over, (I'm sure standards are different as well). The bigger question is where do the profits end up? Would it be nice to see them built here? Sure would but hey government should let business make the decisions as you all on the right say.
On the judge Bork issue, I didn't see what Senator Kennedy said, (I did see VP Biden ask questions in a hearing), but I thought what hurt Judge Bork was the ruling when some women where suing a plant they worked at or it had something to do with reproduction, the women where worried about their unborn children due to what ever the plant made and he suggested either they don't work there or get sterilized? I can see why he never held office on that issue alone.
As far as Benghazi, it seems the report laid the blame where it belonged, of course the President and Secretary Clinton have to shoulder some responsibility but what were you wanting, them to step down? Heck if that was the case President Bush should have stepped down after 9-11, Reagan should have stepped down after the Iran Contra mishap, Carter should have resigned after the failed Iran hostage mission. It sounds like the appropriate people who were most responsible stepped down.
I can agree, there could or should be better responses to Sandy, but for the area that was affected compared to Katrina, Sandy was a much bigger storm in people and infrastructure that was affected. What roles are the states and local governments playing? Sounds like some in Congress don't want to provide what was requested. Sure some debatable but quite honestly it sounds like your still mad that President W. Bush took a beating (partly his own fault for having a friend and stooge running FEMA) on Katrina, but President Obama didn't, and actually was praised by a republican governor. Of course more needs to be done, but I'll let it all play out and see what comes of it. (easy for me to say sitting out here in the Midwest while those having to deal with it have to.)
Just my opinions,
Mel
