Had an old Club Car Turf 2 that is used as a beverage cart that the starter generator gave out on last week. Replaced the starter generator but now it will not get up to speed. In maintenance mode and neutral the engine revs up fine and the governor kicks in but once in operating mode the engine rpms stay low and it never gets close to the governor limit. It will pull itself around but at just a little faster than a walking pace. We have a very hilly course and the speed is not set very high to begin with but it wasnt this slow before the starter went out and now it is.

I put another starter on just to rule out some kind of internal friction failure in the starter. The clutches are engaging and disengaging normally. I replaced the carb, fuel pump, and drive belt. This one has me stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

Figured it out. Voltage regulator was shot and allowing 16+ volts past it, which I believe in turn was kicking in the rpm limiter before the governor or just shorting out the rpm limiter. Replaced regulator, runs like a champ again.
