Is what occured yesterday in Afghanistan is what has become of this administration's feelings about our the US fighting forces. The Sec. of Defense asked a large group of Marines, both enlisted and officeres to disarm themselves before he addressed them. In two tours of duty in Vietnam I do not ever remember being asked to disarm while being addressed by a high ranking military or political dignitary. This is a very sad state of affairs and a complete slap in the face of the Marine Corps. Over the years he has served in various postions in US governement I have never dislike Mr Panetta.............after yesterday he can kiss my Semper fi "you know what".

I had heard that somewhere else but haven't checked to confirm it. Heck that's one thing I wouldn't want our guys doing, I would feel safer with them armed. Did he have Afghanistan officials with him and did he do it to get some point across to them? Would like to hear more of the story and reason before I condemn him.

I read that yesterday and in one article there was a quote that Afgans are not allowed to bring their guns in so
the marines were asked to do the same(equality). To me they might as well be naked, (tell me if Im wrong) They have their weapon constantly with them.

You're in a war zone and no where are you safe (example the guy that drove onto the base yesterday and exploded a vehicle as Panetta's plane was landing) so why disarm yourself. At this point I could care less what the Afghans think and I am sure the feeling is mutual towards us. Let me keep my weapon or ship me home.
