I have a daily fee facility. A good portion of our play are seniors. Many have legitimate needs as far as driving their carts within restricted areas and proximity to the greens and tees. We issue red flags to put on their carts. All it takes is to ask for one at the point of sale. This friendly liberal policy has evolved into anyone with the boldness to ask can get a flag and go any where they want. I would like to control this abuse. Does anyone out there have an effective policy? We thrive on outstanding customer service. It gets touchy when challenging anyone about their need for a flag.

Just implement a policy that they have to present a valid handicap placard to obtain a red flag.

No one is allowed within 30' feet of the green and they are not allowed between a green and a hazard. We have no handicap flags, but we have great Rangers. Those players with real issues are taught how to move around the course. In most cases they approach the green from the rear where there is very little traffic.

The handicap placard policy works well. No fuss no muss. And it gets you, pretty much, anywhere on the course except actually on the greens or in the bunkers. Although some try.

Thanks for the replies. The placard idea occurred to me. Problem then they have no placard to identify that they are eligible to park their cars in handicap slots. People play every angle. For me it takes more effort to avoid the rules than to follow them. Must be the challenge. Rules are for suckers ya know. I thought about calling the government agency to see what kind of identification people with handicap privileges have. Should there be an insignia on their plates as I see some have? Any ID on their drivers license? Maybe someone out their has been down this road and can save me from re-inventing the wheel. Thanks.

What is the degree of damage being done?If it was your course and the green fee was going in your pocket would you feel as you do now?

Actually I am part of ownership. And your point is well taken. The wear is minimal at this point but I see an erosion of our cart policy to where it is difficult to get those without a flag to keep their distance. The behavior is growing and it's discouraging to our PAs who try be effective without being offensive. We try to laugh on the way to the bank. Where do you draw the line? Gotta have limits.

I gave up on this years ago. The honest players are the ones asking for the handicap flag. I think of it like this, when the cart traffic starts to show/cause visible wear i put out ropes and stakes. That's really all I can do.
