I got my first Superintendent job with the US Army at Fort Sheridan. It was a great place to learn the ropes. After leaving there due base closure I said I will never work for the government again. Spent a year growing in a course in the west suburbs, wasn't very happy. One day I received a phone call from my first Supervisor, he said the Navy Course just up the road from where I started, was looking for me and if I was interested I could have the job. Twenty some years later I am still here, I seen this place through a renovation of front nine, a complete re-work of back nine, and a new state of the art clubhouse. There has never been a dull moment. There will be lots of new things to get used to, as most everything is much different than the outside. Lots of rules and regs, but once you get used to system it's not that bad. Three big benefits job security second to none, people will appreciate you for giving your best, and a sweet benefit package. Air Force is basically the king when it comes to military golf. I will say early in my career I did lots of job hunting, and found that lots of people believe the stereotype that government employees are lazy. For that simple fact it makes it tougher to go back to the outside. But to tell you the truth, I'm very happy and at age 55 if i choose to retire I'll be able to, and fairly comfortably. Good Luck.
