48 volt cart batteries Cancel The title field is required!

   A couple of members have decided to start a golf car customizing and reconditioning business. When they replace the batteries in a 48 volt cart they install 4x12 volt marine batteries from Costco. Their reasoning is that it is the same thing but cheaper.
   I tried to explain to them that it's incorrect but they are a little bull headed(one is plumber and the other is car salesman). Explains a lot. I know if this was such a simple solution all cart manufacturers would do it this way.
   
   I need info on why 4 car batteries isn't correct. Why it isn't correct and where can I find info to actually hand them?

   they will not believe you anyway!
   
   the truth I believe is in the size of the plates and how often it allows them to be recharged! golf cart batteries are a lot heavier than regular Marine batteries.
   
   I would think sending an email to someone at Trojon Batteries may get what your looking for. you may actually find a video on You Tube doing the same thing.
   
   Sams sells golf cart batteries.
   
   I know that Club Car built a 48 volt system with 4 - 12 volt batteries in them but it never really worked like they thought and they went back to the 8 volt set ups! I know one of our members had one of these carts and he always had to replace one battery.

   Two reasons mentioned within:
   
   1) 12 volt batteries have higher fail rate and therefore a more costly replacement compared to 6 or 8 volts
   
   2) Amp hours is diminished with 12 volt batteries allowing for a shorter cycle between charges.
