I know what you all are thinking.... get back out to work, but after seeing Grover last night on 60 minutes and his tax pledge, it's had me thinking, and wondering if Republicans are really good business people?

Seems Gov. Romney and Ryan want to continue to cut taxes, my question is why? I know we have some spending issues and we can all debate about what we spend our tax dollars on, and I know it's different then a business, for one the overhead is much higher in government as there has to be more checks and balances on the peoples money. My question is, are you cutting your prices you charge to golfers? Getting less revenue while the cost of things are going up or at least staying the same? Isn't there some point where you can't cut anymore with effecting services or the product you provide the golfer (or citizen)? Doesn't this all put a drag on your business?

I know the argument you can't tax the job creators, I have heard that argument since President Bush first passed his (now President Obama's) tax cuts. It hasn't seemed to help create jobs. I know there are a lot more factors then just taxes in the equation, but with the middle class (I know I'm promoting class warfare) hurting and not having the income to spend like in the past, there is no demand for products so that's why businesses aren't hiring, that's my opinion but it makes sense to me. I can't believe some businessman is going to say "I don't want to expand, it's going to cost me more tax money, I'm happy with the profit I'm making now" I would think they would want to continue to grow and make more money, wouldn't they? (I can see really small businesses such as pizza restaurants and the like not really growing, well probably depends on the size of the family it's going to support) but isn't that a businessman's goal it to grow his business? Heck if it got too big then they turn around and sell it to some conglomerate?

Tell me how my thinking is all wrong? I know the left has their issues too, but this one keeps baffling me.

Mel we are not like the Republicans and cutting taxes we are raising fees and food prices..............so far does not seem to be hurting, in fact helping the bottom line. We are spending some money, a kitchen renovation but no equipment for me.

That's great news David, following the Clinton model to prosperity? I've always thought it takes some money to make some money. I'm guessing the moderate republicans that used to be in congress would agree, but since they aren't there anymore.

We didn't cut prices either, didn't raise them yet, but we did spend so extra money on some small projects like leveling tees. Didn't cost much but play is up, don't know if that's part of it but we'll take credit for some of it. Not sure how our snack bar did this season, there they raised prices just a tad on some things, but most of our seniors don't spend in there anyway.

John, free golf for one day, great marketing idea, you get some people that might be interested in playing your course and returning in the future paying the full price I bet. Your not cutting prices on food or drinks are you? Are you at least charging for the cart?

Can you sustain your business for the long run having free golf days? I guess maybe depending on what your cart fee is and how much food and beverage revenue you could take in.

Maybe that is part of the tax code reforms they are talking about, "we can afford to cut capital gains taxes to zero since we will be taking out the mortgage deduction that people now take, they will balance themselves out."

YES BOTH BOTH GREENS FEES AND CARTS ARE FREE, ON SATURDAY. NO BREAKS IN THE GRILL.
The month, we will charge only cart fees. and discount food in the Pro shop. We just ended our fiscal revenue +164K up for the year and our still actively seeking area memberships to couple with our heavy snowbird play.

I know we finished last season up on revenue and also are trending that way this year. We only run specials on greens fees and carts in certain months. Over the winter which was mild for us they ran 4 play for the price of 3 Monday thru Thursdays, had to bring a foursome, and this month it was 2 for 20 on Tuesdays but had to have two. Otherwise they could play at the twilight rate of $25. We don't have memberships although we do have a prepay policy where you put so much into an account and get discounts on everything from greens fees to merchandise, but you will not receive discounts off of the discounted fees. I can see as you said, for one month you will do this to attract more memberships a short term discount for a long term solution, maybe we can compare it to the Bush/Obama tax cuts?

I do not mean to disparate your policy so please accept my apologies, but since this is in the politics forum, I just try to point out how this all compares to our debt situation in the country. Businesses need to do what they need to do, and I know ours does the same, of course businesses have more flexibility then the government has, the government changes something and it will take years for it to play out, as it usually takes years for it to get changed again.

Do you need me to send you the 3 number security code on the back of your card? In case you're planning to buy the ticket online? I know you probably made a copy of the front, but sometimes people forget to copy the back.

    Just being a good friend........

Free Golf Update on Saturday, Free Greens fees, carts and range balls - Played over 300 rounds
The rest of the month is free Green fees, Today 200+ rounds and counting.
Seems to be working for a typically slow time of year for us.
Carts just sitting in the barn don't make money.

I of course agree with that statement.
We are seen as a Winter Golf destination.
But when you have 150+ carts sitting in the barn unused all summer and playing 60 rounds daily(mostly membership walking), with a golf inventory of 63 holes, it does have some merit. We are renting and charging those carts used or not. It drives revenue in the Golf Shop, The Grille, The driving range and especially The $6 toll to get on the island and etc.The island fills up with family beach goers, not golfers, and the courses are normally empty this time of year. It is a month long local membership drive. The cart rentals alone for the remainder of the month will exceed our normal projected revenues for the month this time of year.
It was upper management's idea, The courses are in good shape. Showing them off in a membership drive while play is low. September is always a slow month for us.
