We've had an employee working for us for the past year that on his best days is marginal and his worst, terrible. He does show up, right on time to punch in and of course always the first to punch out when leaving. Getting in his way in the parking lot could be dangerous. Though an "at will state" in regards to employment he had done nothing really to give me " cause for termination" ..........until today.

This morning I had cut up a large 12" chocolate chip cookie that the GM had brought down to the maintenance facility on Monday with a "Get Well" greeting on it. I've been suffering from my first and I hope last attack of the shingles so his gesture was appreciated. Had forgot to put it out in the break room on Monday afternoon so decided today to cut it up and offered it to the crew with their morning cup of coffee. The employee in question arrived as usual 1 minute prior to punch in time and immediately jumped in the face of a new employee that had begun work on Monday for taking "his parking spot". I informed the employee only the mechanic and myself had an assigned parking spot.....all others were first come first served. He then launched into a tirade about my cutting his hours. I informed him he had been hired as a part-time or seasonal employee and if he was unhappy he was not an indentured servant and he could quit and seek employment elsewhere. AT that point in front of the entire crew he suggested that I go fornicate myself and I could also perform a sexual act on him. Both comments brought an immediate smile to my face as I said in my most composed voice that his comments suggest insubordination and he was terminated. To remove his belongings and himself from the property within the next 3 minutes. He then went on a minute long rant of profanity directed at me and the club and how he would have my butt in court soon (not the term he used). I told him he was down to 2 minutes before the city police would be called to physically remove him. He left in a squeal of tires...........and then within 3 minutes I could hear him in the back of the shop.......where our equipment is parked ranting and cursing again as the other employees were attempting to exit the building to begin work. My assistant who had missed the initial outburst as he had been checking on irrigation stuck his head in my office and said the that crazy sob is back and not sure if he has a gun or not. I told my assistant..........I do as well if he does indeed have one. My mechanic and other crew members got him out of the shop again as he directed one last profanity laced outburst at myself, my wife and my family.

What a way to start a day..........at least I did not to kung fu fight him as Red had too.

Shingles? Man they suck, then to have to deal with that guy? Heck, I might have even shot the SOB just to be over it, I'm sure you would have got off if you were able to get a jury of your peers, those that have had shingles.

At least you can now get a shot for them, I had them over the winter and I'm not old enough to get the shot.

Yes Mel they do indeed suck. And hot weather is not your best friend as well with them. My wife is not old either but she went and got it and I plan too once I am free of them.............a 2-4 period and I am in my third week so hopefully the end is near. Getting rid of him cetainly eased my day and I did my assistant a big favor and dealing with him so he will not have to after january 1...............love it when a plan comes together.

Thank god that SOB did not come after you with a gun. I have had my share of rotten apples out here in California. The shingles are not fun, especially on your face and head. When I got them a few years ago, it was caused by stress. Sucks that I am too young to get the shot. It is a sign that we must take care of ourselves. About 6 months later I had a TIA, which is a mini stroke. What a wake up call I had. Luckily I had no damage from all this. Now I am going to the gym and eating much better. Good luck with you recovery. Not fun at all.

Luckily I had mine in December, they were on the right side of my face and head, still don't really have feeling on that side of my face, makes shaving a little tough but I'm used to it now. Of the top of my head I don't remember my one pain medicine, but I was on that for about 3 months.

I need to start doing the gym more, we luckily get a huge discount to the park's department centers if we did a HRA. Only $8 a month for the family, we do get the rest recorded as income for tax purposes, but it won't change my bracket.

Of course now I have hi-jacked this thread from it's original intent, sorry.

Mel, I feel for you. I also had it on the right side and on top of the head. It started out as what I thought was a insect bite, but got worse daily. For the pain, my doctors gave percocet and extra strength vicodin. It helped relieving the pain. The scariest part of mine was almost loosing my vision on my right eye as the shingles also affected that area. Glad that it was only a minor scare on the non vision part of the eye that got damaged. It took me over 6 months to recover from it. Just take care of your self.

Thanks Albert, luckily my vision wasn't really impacted, I did go without my contacts for about 3 weeks, it did bother my ears and top of my head too. I remember now it was Lyrica that my doctor gave me for pain. It worked well.

Red, I just think you are jealous that you and David didn't bond over your similar incidents?
