What can be expected going from superintendent at a low budget course, less than 250,000 budget to assistant at high end club, over 1,000,000 budget. The pay is the same.

Old school thought, as the superintendent you focused on making the course look good. as the asst. you'll need to refocus so that you can make the superintendent look good. At the low end course I'm sure you put in the hours because you love the work. At the high end course you'll likely still be putting in the same hours, but by being told to do so. Some may not be able to handle that feature. As the asst. your course inspections will be without the golf clubs. And you may have to stand back and let the superintendent BE the superintendent. With the right mentality going in it can work. I went from supt. putting in 85+ hours taking care of bentgrass in south west TN to 45 hours a week being the equipment mgr in New Orleans. The reprieve was great it allowed me to regain my love for the business and I learned a few things to boot. 11 months later landed a superintendents position again and I'm trying to take it a little easier. Got tougher when they gave me the pro-shop to manage, but all is good.
The choice is yours to make. I think you'll be fine.

Provide support for the Superintendent both with your intellect, trust and time.
Detail work will be much more detailed. A much larger staff to deal with will be difficult at times. You will be tested by them. Remember they've been there a long time and are a great resource most of the time. Depending upon what the Super requires of you, be willing to step in and help the staff complete jobs unless you are expected to ride and around and just point and give orders. There is always something I would think you could do to show you are willing to help the staff out whenever possible.
A new set of eyes looking from a perspective of a former super or renewed energy might be just what is needed in the operation.
We've had a number of former supers get hired as firsts or seconds at jobs here in STL.
I was told one time by a golf pro that he liked how I handled the course when the Super was gone. Did not big-time it, realized I was only the assistant and that there was someone that was still in charge. I was there to provide support for the super and staff and provide great conditions for the membership.

Thanks Joe, I actually worked for this superintendent before. I was one of his assistants during the grow in of Dalhousie in Cape Girardeau. I'm pretty excited to be back on a top notch facility.
