    Good morning everyone,

I am in the process of putting together a complete "equipment overhaul plan". I have been down this road in the past, with little success, and would like to gather some more information before I present my options.

Essentially, the current situation is that every piece in our barn needs extensive repairs to bring it back to an operational state. We are currently negotiating for the purchase of 2-3 new pieces, but my concern is that the remaining fleet will not last more than 2-3 years, even after throwing a lot of money at it. With an R&M budget at an extraordinary amount already, I am starting to believe that we'd be best to hit the reset button. However, saying that, I am not holding out hope that this will actually occur without a slam dunk of a case for it. I am trying to determine whether it is best to repair everything now, or go in another direction.

My question today, is there anybody out there who may be able to provide me with some facts or figures with regards to lease payments vs. R&M savings/ downtime, etc?

    Any info is appreciated!

    Thanks

It's going to be a lot of leg work, but if you can get a good idea of the parts you'll need to get the equipment through another year, plus all the labor it'll take to get them up and running, then get a couple of quotes for leases. You may be able to get the lease for about what the R&M budget might be, as well as saving labor. Downtime is anybodies guess, but with a lease your distributor would be on the hook for anything major, and would most likely give you a demo to cover any extended down time that might occur.

Just remember, pay now or pay later, either way you're paying. Good luck!!
