Looking for thoughts and experiences on fairway compaction relief. We've got heavy clay soils and some fairways with fairly abrupt undulations, historically our Procore 880 has caused us some issues practically rototilling tighter soils. Currently we are managing to remove good amounts of thatch with a First Products VC 60 and I am looking solely at either a deep tine unit or vert-quake for compaction relief. Any suggestions on either unit would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The first products UA 60 with ociliating tines works on my high traffic areas that are compacted, have demoed the vertiquake in tight soil and it pushed the tractor as it got on top of the ground and didn't do a good job of penetration

I've used both deep tine and the vertiquake. Both are awesome at relieving compaction. Both are very slow. I prefer the vertiquake for fairways and deeptine for greens. I have no scientific information to determine why I prefer one over the other, just do. Gut feeling!

We use both methods on our clay fairways, we will verti-drain and vertiquake in spring, then verti-drain again in the fall. New tractor with cab, heat and A/C, make the job a treat now!! Our operator has earned it after many years in miserable cold wet weather.
