Southeast Region Update: A Strong Start to the Season

May 1, 2026

As we transition into the heart of spring and the arrival of prime golfing weather, the Southeast region has been exceptionally active. The energy across our chapters reflects both the excitement of the season and our members' continued commitment to professional growth, education and community engagement.

March kicked things off with a busy and productive schedule across the region. The annual GCSAA Leadership Symposium was held at headquarters in Lawrence, Kan., drawing strong attendance from chapter leaders and executives focused on strengthening leadership skills and sharing best practices. Back in the Southeast, the Gulf Coast GCSA hosted a successful event at Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club in Destin, Fla., bringing members together for education and networking along the Emerald Coast.

Also in March, preparations ramped up for one of the PGA TOUR’s premier events as the Louisiana-Mississippi GCSA (LMGCSA) gathered at TPC Louisiana ahead of the Zurich Classic. A highlight of the event was a presentation by GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans, who shared his incredible journey of conquering Mt. Everest. His story of perseverance, preparation and overcoming adversity resonated strongly, drawing meaningful connections to the challenges and rewards within our profession.

April has been equally productive. The Kentuckiana GCSA hosted a Strategic Planning Session at Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville, Key. These sessions are vital in ensuring chapters remain forward-thinking, member-focused, and well-positioned for future success.

Additional April chapter activity remained strong throughout the region. The Tennessee GCSA (TGCSA) hosted an Educational Day in Smyrna, Tenn., providing valuable learning opportunities for members. Another successful chapter event was held in Memphis, Tenn., at Windyke Country Club, continuing the trend of strong participation and engagement.

April also featured one of the most unique and anticipated events in the region—the annual Alabama GCSA Night Golf Event. The format includes nine holes played in the afternoon, followed by dinner and camaraderie, before heading back out for the final nine holes under the lights. Using glow-in-the-dark golf balls and set against the beautiful backdrop of downtown Birmingham, the event provides a memorable experience and highlights the creativity and fellowship within the chapter.

One of the most impactful initiatives of the year, Rounds 4 Research, also took place in April. While final numbers are still being compiled, early indications suggest another record-breaking year. This program continues to demonstrate the generosity and commitment of our facilities. A sincere thank you goes out to all who donated rounds to support turfgrass research and the future of our industry.

Education and outreach remain a priority across the Southeast. April included two outstanding First Green events—one at Chariot Run Golf Club in Laconia, Indiana, and another at Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain in Crossville, Tenn. Both events were exceptionally well executed, providing students with hands-on learning experiences that highlight the science behind golf course management and support the GCSAA’s STEAM initiatives.

The month wrapped up on a high note with the 6th Annual Gulf Coast GCSA Family Night in Pensacola, Fla., where members and their families enjoyed an evening together at a Pensacola Blue Wahoos baseball game. Events like this highlight the strong sense of community that makes our region so special.

As we look ahead to summer, golf in the Southeast region is thriving. Courses are in great shape, members are engaged and chapters are active. The momentum built over the past few months positions us well for a successful and busy season.

Here’s to a great summer ahead on the course.

Sincerely, Ron Prescott
