San Diego GCSA hosts education event at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club

Oct 15, 2020

Golf, lunch and education provided in a safe and socially distanced outdoor setting

The San Diego GCSA hosted their first meeting and education since the beginning of the pandemic this past March. The “Drive-In” meeting was held at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe and was hosted by current San Diego GCSA President Cody Layton.

Chapter Executive Sandy Cooper organized the outing that featured 18-holes of golf, lunch, education and a horse race to wrap up the day.

The event began with 9-holes of golf and then was followed by a box lunch with each of the participants dining on their assigned golf cart for the day.

FairbanksThe education followed and was provided by Jennifer Brown of BASF. The seminar was provided via an online webinar that was set up in an amphitheater-style setting on the course grounds, allowing all of the participants to view and listen to the education in the comfort of their own carts.  Limited seating was available for those who had difficulty seeing the presentation on the four 70-inch televisions that were mounted for viewing from four sides.Surround sound was used and the presentation was crystal clear from carts staged around the set-up.GCSAA CEU’s were provided for those in attendance.

Following the education, an additional 9-holes was played and the top teams from the 18-hole round were grouped into teams of two for a 3-hole horse race.President Cody Layton provided the entertainment on the mic for the horse race and a lot of good-natured ribbing was handed out.

The event was capped at 60 participants for safety purposes and was sold out with a waiting list. All of the participants enjoyed a great day of golf, food and education in a safe outdoor environment.

Kudos to Sandy, the San Diego Board of Directors and the Fairbanks Ranch staff for pulling off a great event under onerous California restrictions on gatherings.  Some creativity and ingenuity go a long way!
