Become a Grassroots Ambassador to share your story with members of congress and advocate on behalf of the golf course management industry

Lawrence, Kan. (July 25, 2023) The GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador Program, an advocacy effort established in 2014 by the Golf Course Superintendents Association (GCSAA), surpassed 500 members in 2023, representing 91% of congressional districts across the country.

The goal of the Grassroots Ambassador Program is to connect GCSAA members with members of congress to build strong working relationships and improve federal policies impacting the industry. The program has established a network of committed volunteers to serve as “go-to” advocates for lawmakers and their staff on golf course management issues. GCSAA provides all the tools and training needed for becoming an effective advocate for the industry.

“Advocacy is a top priority for GCSAA, and Grassroots Ambassadors are a driving force behind much of our advocacy work. Ambassadors are a key link between our industry and policymakers at the federal, state and local level,” said GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans. “Their voices are crucial for the promotion, protection and defense of the golf industry, so we encourage all GCSAA members with an interest in advocacy to join this important program.”

GCSAA needs your help to fill the remaining 48 Grassroots Ambassador spots. Connect with GCSAA government affairs staff to see if there are open positions in your area. Any GCSAA member who recruits a new ambassador to fill an open spot will receive a $50 gift card.

Filling the Grassroots Ambassador positions of every congressional district helps GCSAA expand its advocacy network and share the stories of golf course management professionals directly with lawmakers. In 2023, the program was expanded to include more than one ambassador per district, so even if your congressional is already represented and you have an interest in advocacy, you are still encouraged to join.

GCSAA members who are interested in becoming a Grassroots Ambassador should contact Michael Lee, senior manager, government affairs, at 800-472-7878, ext. 3612, for more information. Terms begin on a quarterly basis in the months of January, April, July and October. To learn more about the program, visit www.gcsaa.org/advocacy/get-involved/ambassadors.
