Annual tournament honors superintendents throughout the region

The Sierra Nevada GCSA recently held their annual Grassroots Tournament at Bing Maloney Golf Course in Sacramento, CA.  In addition to a day of golf for superintendents and their well deserving crew members, the event recognizes the Annual Award Winners for the chapter.

The 2020 Distinguished Member of the Year award for contributions for the betterment of the association, its members, and the golf course superintendent’s profession was awarded to Sam Samuelson, CGCS at Wildhawk Golf Club.  Sam currently serves on the chapter board of directors and is a 39-year member of GCSAA.

The Turfgrass Manager of the Year Awards for maintaining facilities to a standard that reflects consistent, high quality playing conditions while displaying exceptional agronomic and management skills went to Muhammad Ali and Dave Bermudez.  Ali, who oversees Bing Maloney and served as the day’s host, was awarded for the public sector with Bermudez being awarded for the private sector for his efforts at Del Rio Country Club in Modesto.  Dave is a 37-year member of GCSAA.

Michael Kaveney of Turkey Creek Golf Club was awarded the President’s Grassroots Award for his outstanding individual career efforts and for his contributions to the association and the industry.  Kaveney is a 31-year member of GCSAA.
