GCSAA publishes specialized information on a frequent basis that drills down on top advocacy issues and activities.
GCSAA’s Michael Lee, senior manager, government affairs, recently had the opportunity to attend the Empire State Golf Alliance inaugural advocacy event at the New York State Capitol in Albany, and it was an inspiring day focused on advancing the game of golf in the state.
The event brought together superintendents, golf professionals, course owners and other industry leaders to engage directly with legislators and policymakers. Throughout the day, participants highlighted the significant economic, environmental and community benefits that golf provides to New York. From supporting nearly 90,000 jobs and driving tourism to preserving green space and promoting healthy lifestyles, the industry’s impact extends far beyond just the fairways of the state’s 833 golf courses.
One of the most valuable aspects of the event was the opportunity to share firsthand perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing golf facilities today. Meaningful conversations with elected officials helped raise awareness about issues impacting golf courses management, access to the game, and the broader golf community. The newly formed New York Golf Caucus, chaired by Assemblymember Amanda Septimo, will serve as a great way for legislators to share these messages with each other and formulate policy around those ideas.

Attending the event reinforced the importance of collaboration between the golf industry and state government. By working together, stakeholders can help ensure that golf remains accessible, sustainable and vibrant for future generations in the state.
The newly formed Empire State Golf Alliance continues to play a vital role in advocating for the industry, and the day at the Capitol served as a powerful reminder that a unified voice can make a meaningful difference for golf throughout New York.
