GCSAA names Nicole Poell editor-in-chief of GCM

Poell will oversee the writing, editing and overall production of GCSAA’s monthly award-winning publication, including the GCM’s digital version and social media properties

 

Experienced sports journalist will lead GCSAA’s flagship publication

 

Lawrence, Kan. (July 7, 2026) – Nicole Poell, an award-winning sports journalist with more than three decades of experience, has been named editor-in-chief of GCM and director of publications for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). 

In her role, Poell will oversee the writing, editing and overall production of GCSAA’s monthly award-winning publication, including the management of GCM’s digital version and social media properties. She takes over the position from Andrew Hartsock, who is retiring this month. 

Prior to GCSAA, Poell was deputy sports editor for USA Today, where she spent nine years. That followed sports editor roles at Fox Sports, the Kansas City Star and the San Jose Mercury-News. She has earned multiple Associated Press Sports Editors awards 

She holds a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., and studied at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.   

“We are extremely fortunate to have such a decorated sports journalist as Nicole join our team,” GCSAA Chief Executive Officer Rhett Evans said. “Her knowledge and experience will enhance GCM, which is such a trusted and crucial source of information for the golf course management industry.”  

Poell began her position on July 6.

“I’m so honored to join the respected GCSAA team, and I look forward to meeting our members whenever possible,” Poell said.

Poell’s team includes veteran GCSAA staff members Phil Cauthon, managing editor; Howard Richman, associate editor; Darell Pehr, science editor; Abby Olcese, GCMOnline editor; and Roger Billings, senior manager, creative services.
