Lawrence, Kan. (Oct. 21, 2025) – As part of its workforce development initiative, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) has created the Greenkeeper Certificate to provide education for entry-level golf course maintenance skills for crew members.
To earn the certificate, crew members learn from six webinars, pass an exam and demonstrate proficiency in the key areas of turfgrass prep and maintenance, equipment use and safety, teamwork, communication and golf course etiquette.
“Labor continues to be a top challenge for the golf course management industry, and GCSAA is committed to helping our members find, train and retain qualified crew members,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “The Greenkeeper Certificate program offers the opportunity to train crew and recognize high performers, which we hope will encourage them to continue along a career path in the industry.”
GCSAA members can enroll in the program for $30, while the total cost for non-members is $310.

Dan Dinelli, director of agronomy, North Shore Country Club, Glenview, Ill., will be featured on "Katrek and Maginnes On Tap” Wednesday, October 22 at 6 p.m. Eastern on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio channel 92. The 43-year GCSAA member was recently inducted into the Illinois Golf Hall of Fame. He is a third-generation superintendent and between he and his father, a Dinelli has been the superintendent at North Shore for 65 of the club's 101 years. Dan was also on the committee that established BMPs for the state of Illinois.
