I would add, those salary surveys do come in handy at times.
We used the information to show how low our pay was compared to other superintendents, even in our local chapter/area, along with internal information from other positions in the city. We've been able to convince the park board to bump us up one step to the just past mid 40,000's range from just under $40,000. I think we should have been bumped up more when compared to similar jobs in public works right of way and livestock coordinators. But I know us getting bumped up has far reaching ramifications throughout the city and park system. So we are thankful for this increase.
Also to note, when I applied for this job 10 years ago, there were very few qualified applications, 3 made it to the interview process, so using that analogy shows what Jon stated about getting qualified applicants showed with the low pay range. Despite the pay, I made the job work for me by focusing on the course, and really trying new things and keeping engaged. I know I have the job security to try those new things.
I will say I took this job at the time because I needed a job, it was close to my mom and my side of the family, and in the long run our family has benefited through growing up in a great neighborhood with people who all care about each other and being in the right school system and schools for us with band being very important to us along with our band family as well. Plus the benefits with health care and having a pension down the road will make up for some of the salary issues. Sorry for the long story, but I'm trying to show that every job listed is important to someone.
