I thought as conventions go, the overall theme of the convention was positive with a real attitude of confidence for the future of our country. Nobody attacked Obama personally but rather focused on what they believe to be the failure of his policies and administration. The attendees were well mannered and respectful. I was especially impressed how everyone respected the Cardinal giving the closing benediction. You could hear a pin drop. The goal of the convention was to put a personal touch on Romney the man to counter all the negative that has been said about him by the left and willing mainstream press. I think that that was accomplished. Many of the speeches were very moving and emotional while still being uplifting. Sure, some of you will split hairs on some of the statements and probably even call them lies. Much of that will result from each of our won bias on how we view politics. I can only hope the Democratic convention will be as polite and respectful with comments limited to peoples record and performance. Unfortunately, I think we will see way too many shrill and negative voices continuing with personal attacks. If the so-called 99% show up in force, I expect to see very bad behavior that will badly hurt the dems. Lets hope we hear better than phony wars on women and scare tactics toward seniors. Sell your benefits and quit with blame games!

Have to agree with most of what you said, but calling stuff lies? Well when then facts are there, some of what they said were lies and scare tatics as well, of course that's my opinion. I agree I will have some of my own bias, because I can think for myself and will do more then just listen to what they say. I will admit, sometimes it's hard to listen to such an uplifting message yet know that either by past actions or by policy plans, what they are saying is pure bs. And remember when they talk about failed policies, it takes two sides to tango and let's not forget one side decided not to dance, so they should be sharing some of the blame. Of course we will hear that at the other convention as well I assume. Sandy you have agreed you are doing the same as the following statement shows:

It seems most attendees where respectful.....well except for those two morons throwing peanuts at the African-American camerawoman from CNN and commenting about how they feed the animals. Too bad CNN had to go to security (if I read the story correctly) instead of the people around those two idiots doing something.

Admittedly haven't read up much on the CNN/peanut throwing issue, but why do we go straight to racism? could it be they were referring to the press (left leaning) as animals and not the race of the reporter?

The peanut throwing is despicable. I don't know if they were republicans or people that got in to intentionally make them look bad. Either way, they are idiots to the maximum degree. I find it equally as distasteful with something called the negroecam created by some idiot blogger. The sole purpose was to count non-whites to criticize the convention as being too white. Can't these clowns just all go jump off of a really high bridge so the rest of us don't have to listen to their propaganda!

As an independent, I won't watch any of the two conventions... no need for it. Did see the clips of Clint on the news this morning... who thought that was a good idea to put him up there with an empty chair? Didn't do 'em any favors...

Keith, good point, maybe if the news report would have just read camera women, and didn't mention her race, I guess one has to ask the peanut throwers. Maybe I go straight to the race issue is because I grew up at a time it was about race and I immediately (unfortunately) thought that way.

But either way why didn't others do something? Of course who knows how long or short of time it took for CNN to call security.

They should have invited D'Mac, people would have thought he was Bronson. I wonder who the Democrats just uninvited to speak at their convention?

I thought the Clint Eastwood thing was sad. Actors aren't usually filming their scenes in front of 15,000 people and I am hoping Clint was just a little overwhelmed. If that wasn't the case, I would hate to think at 82 that Clint has declined that rapidly. I saw him interviewed one on one several weeks ago and he sounded fine. If he is rapidly slipping, it was a very poor choice on some planners part. I want to remember Clint as young Rowdy Yates on Wagon Train or the stud characters he played for so many years. I hope he just had a bad night. I remember when they brought out Heston after dementia had already set in. They almost had to aim him at the crowd, he uttered a few lines and was carefully guided off the stage. It just doesn't seem right to treat some of our respected elders that way just to use their famous name.

"Looks" like a WMD? It is a WMD! But in a good way.

I gotta tell ya'll......Steve's BBQ should/would win awards. By far.....the best meat I have ever tasted. Just hold the end of a bone and wiggle it. The meat just slides right off. Kurta is THE master!

    Wasn't Rowdy Yates in "Rawhide"?

    You know the song,

    "Through rain, wind, and weather,
    Hell bent for leather,
Wishin' my gal was by my side,"

I sing it to myself still when the weather's bad.

Just did my first pig for my Mechanic's 50th birthday. It came out better than I expected.
I made this cooker a few years ago -- is a reverse-flow wood burner with tunable plates. Made from a pneumatic accumulator tank from some factory in buffalo. I picked it up on ebay for $600. Have about $200 in it beyond that and a lot of sweat.

I didn't get to watch any of the RNC, sadly. Heard reports on it though. Read some stuff in the paper and on blogs. Seems like nobody screwed up too bad. Feel awful for Clint. I LOVE Clint. I am huge fan of all his stuff. Big part of my childhood watching all those great movies with my dad. But hey, we all get old and maybe a little caught up in ourselves and do things that, although we think are neat at the time, turn out totally borked and ridiculous. I'm willing to cut the guy slack because of the enjoyment I got from his movies. It's just too bad for him he's going to be remembered for something as stupid as a incoherent monologue at a political convention.
I see the only real damage he did was to himself, and to whoever didn't check his intentions out more thoroughly. Probably let the wind out of Romney's sails a little, but I really don't think it would've mattered anyhow.

I think the Repubs can take a seat for this election. It's just not their year and Romney isn't the guy. Everyone feels it that I talk to, on both sides of the fence. He's got nothing.
But I guarantee there'll be nothing like the kind of energy and fire that's going to be around in 2016. Christie and Rubio are the guys. They'll be unbeatable. Maybe Ryan won't stink too bad with the flop sweat that's coming off Romney and can salvage a second try as Pres.

That's just sick! Was he somebody's pet? Was he begging you not to put him in the fire? Couldn't you have cut the head off so he didn't look like a real pig? I couldn't eat any of that.....it would be like Eb saying, "Hey! Ya'll want a slice of Arnold?"

"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" is my favorite western of all time, but it has to be the full-length director's cut. Too often it's shown in an edited version that loses the essence of the film.

Yes indeed, it was Rawhide. I got two old great programs mixed up. Just noticed that the dems are starting off their convention great. It is not even officially open and the repubs have been called nazi's by a California idiot and Pelosi didn't condemn it, they were also called liars and Scott Brown was called a woman. Boy, that is positive wording on the day before the convention starts!

I had heard a couple of delegates from California came in drunk and created a ruckus and were sent home, haven't heard of the other issues yet. If it's true, Pelosi needs to step up along with others, is the idiot from her district? I wonder if there is a protocol they have to follow, like who really disciplines a delegate? That would be like me, depending on I suppose the circumstance, firing one of the cart kids because I caught them doing something wrong, like doughnuts in the fairways. (Well I think I should have that power, but all we can do is tell the manager and apprentice pro). But I say behind the scenes the President's people need to be pulling people aside and telling them that we do not do things this way.

If what Gov. Romney is proposing would work, Bush 43 would have been the keynote speaker at the RNC.
