ONE! The worst nightmare for the Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, ACC has happened. Once again the best conference, the SEC West is 1, 2, 3 in the BCS polls. As they say it ain't over till the fat lady sings but she is off stage warming up right now. OSU, Oregon, OU, Clemson............gooooooooooooooooooone. The biggest mistake in tonights polls is VaTech at #4..............who the hell have the beaten..............the ACC is at best an average football conference. But next Friday we will know...............if Tracy's adopted team can knock off LSU then the poll takes one more topsy turvy turn. But on January 9th turn your TV's off..........it's LSU vs Alabama in the Bourbon Street Brawl II....................for football fans the best is the west........SEC West!

The tv's are already off when the SEC and LSU comes on. Watching LSU score a whopping 9 points when they finally played a decent team (Alabama) after a week off to get ready kinda sucked. Then tough two games of Western Kentucky at LSU and LSU at Ole Miss. Of course Ole Miss only has two wins this season, but they are both quality wins. (Southern Illinois and Fresno State) I bet it was exciting watching LSU take a knee three times in a row with over 5 minutes left in the game. No, I did not watch it, I saw the high(low)lights on ESPN. :)

Rick why would I expect anything more than that from you.......please and take your time in naming anyone that has played and won on the road against 2 teams in the Top 3 with yet anohter coming on Friday...........6 road wins, defeated all ranked opponents they have played to date.......which is 7..........and still will need to win a conference championship game against yet another ranked team should we win on Friday. The other mystery of last nights polls was the fact that OSU only fell 2 spots after losing to a sorry Iowa State team after blowing a 17 point lead.

    David,

You beat #10 Oregon on your home field (Dallas), dominated a tough 5-6 Northwestern State at home, dominated another tough 5-6 Miss State on the road, beat a 7-4 West Virginia team that has one win against a rated opponent (#23 Cinncinnati), beat a tough 4-7 Kentucky team whose wins include Western Kentucky, Central Michigan, Jacksonville State and Ole Miss, a great 6-5 Florida team with quality wins over Florida Atlantic, UAB, Tennesee, Kentucky and Vanderbilt, a challenging game at 5-6 Tennesee whose great wins include Montana, Buffalo, Middle Tennesee State and Vanderbilt, a tough home game against 7-4 Auburn, whose quality wins include Utah State, Miss. State, Florida Atlantic, Ole MIss and Samford, a boring win over Alabama, who can't kick a field goal to save their lives, and of course the two tough games I mentioned in an earlier post of a 6-5 Western Kentucky and 2-9 Ole Miss. Six teams with winning records, but 2 of them are 6-5 and one is 7-4. 5 teams you beat have a combined 21-34 record. You beat two teams who are CURRENTLY rated in the top 25. Does that sound like I am describing a team who should win the National Championship?

Again the last time I checked Dallas is in Texas............our home field is located 7 hours to the southeast of Big D.......at the time we played them they were in fact #3.......in fact as of this past Saturday they were #4.....can't control where they fall to after they are beaten.........on January 9th turn the TV off and watch some corn grow....assuming we make it there ourselves.

damn....u Louisiana guys are sharp. You can read a map! :) Can you say over-rated. They get beaten because they aren't that good. Watching corn grow is way more fun than watching LSU play another .500 or worse team and prance around like they are god's gift to football.

I hate to say this as an SEC guy, but the conference is having a down year. LSU certainly deserves its spot, Arkansas and Alabama I'm not that convinced. Fact of the matter is, after these three, the conference isn't very good. Georgia will win the east, and Boise crushed them.

Serious question: Is the SEC going to do anything about over signing? That, alone, is the reason they are currently dominating the college landscape.

Ron the SEC banned oversigning at this years Presidents and AD's summer meetings. The limit is 25 a year but you cannot exceed your cap so some years you may not be able to sign even 25.

OK Rick still waiting on your Top 5.......even Top 3 is a start. I'm thinking of sending a good bottle of wine to go with the cheese as well........give you and your wife something to do on January 9th.

You don't think Saban or Petrino will find some way around the SEC "rule"? Dirt bags. Oversigning has definitely paid off for some unscrupulous schools. Look at Georgia. That haven't oversigned and they now find themselves in the middle of the pack. It's a competitive advantage, it's unethical, and funny how the top three teams are notorious for it.

Sorry bad weekend from your prespective.........Iowa loses........LSU wins.........I know, I know, we haven;t played anyone but somehow beat another #3 ranked team after spotting them a 14-0 lead.........41-3 from there on unfortunately for the Hawgs. No problem David. The BIg Ten is tough as usual, unlike the cakewalk the SEC is this year. You just played another over-ranked SEC team. When the SEC decides they have to play by the rules the rest of the country does we will see how well they do. Your talk has been pretty big this year, but I guess you were never taught to win or lose with class. Oh, that's right, class is something LSU football doesn't have to worry about. Their criminals have more to worry about than going to class. More to life than football David, but you wouldn't now about that. After January 9th we'll just have to read your prejudice political posts, until they get pulled.

Rick there is no reason to be so bitter. It's only football.......not life or death......have some fun with it. Yes I remember the powerful Big 10 last season in the bowls games how well they did against the over rated SEC. I am sure this years bowl results will be the same. Yes we have our share of criminals, and I am sure in the same percentages of the remainder of the country as well, ours may just get more ESPN time unfortunately.

My slanted political post are no more or less than your own.......you lean left, I lean right........it is still America right that we can still choose the horse to bet on? The political correctness crowd hasn't changed that while I have been busy with football has it? And I really do not recall any of my political post being pulled.......haven;t been paying much attention to that but the political season is soon upon us.......thats almost as much fun as football.

I hope HBO has a good movie on January 9th as you won;t be tuned to ABC.

Not bitter David. And talk about it's only football, your the one thats posting your gambling bets on here every week. Funny how you can't talk about this season and how weak the SEC is. And of course you have neglected to talk about LSU's weak schedule, playing Western Kentucky and Ole Miss in the last few weeks of the season. A couple of tough wins, huh? And then we could talk about your LSU criminals. Your starting QB likes to carry drugs across the border and kick people in the face after someone else knocked them to the ground. Jefferson was obviously watching another great LSU qb, JaMarcus Russell. Of course, your coach has a history of recruiting thugs, it goes back to his Okie State days. If you want to talk past history, lets talk about LSU's success in the Capital One bowl games. 2010, lost to who? Big Ten PSU. 2004, lost to who? hmm. Remember Tate to Holloway, touchdown? yep, thats right. Lowly old Iowa. Well David, this has gotten old. You can reply to my e mail. I think you have it, but if not its rickandjackie1@mediacombb.net. Please don't send any of your racist jokes tho.

You are absolutey right Rick.........obviously the pollsters do not have a clue as to what the hell they are doing. The Ap is unanimous with all 60 first place votes, the USA Coaches poll is unanimous with all 59 first place votes, the Harris Inactive is unanimous with all 115 first place votes......the BCS standings have them at 1.000. Our schedule is pitiful though I do notice four CURRENTLY ranked BCS teams we beat......3 on the road. But as you say I digress.........

Not sure what the comment about carrying drugs across the border means exactly.......he was charged with assault and kicking someone in a fight outside a bar............a dispictable act without question......and lets not talk a walk through the college time machine, down memory lane so to speak....as I said the other day all teams and schools have their share of skeltons..........even holy Penn State as we find out.......do the names Michael Mallory, Brady Johnson, D. Johnson-Koulinaos....ring any bells in Iowa........we all have our misfits

    David,

You played 6....SIX teams with winning records this year. One of them was Western Kentucky. You beat NW State, a perennial powerhouse in the Southland Conference, a .500 Miss State team, a 5-7 Kentucky, a .500 Florida, a 5-7 Tennessee, and a 2-10 Ole Miss. You squeaked by Alabama. Yup, you are undefeated. Unfortunately when you play a schedule like that and win them all (as you should) the polls have no choice (unfortunately) to vote you #1. As far as the three names you listed, Mallory, Johnson and DJK only one was a football player at Iowa. So you have to pick out regular students at Iowa now? And the difference between Kirk Ferentz and Les Miles is Ferentz suspended and then kicked DJK off the team, no questions asked, immediately. Miles would have waited until after their next important football game, if then. How's LSU's great qb's Jamarcus Russell and Ryan Perrilloux doing? Great character there huh? No, Iowa is not perfect, but winning at ALL cost, including lying, cheating, stealing, and even kicking a guy in the face when he is down doesn't fly at Iowa. We all have our misfits, but LSU seems to have more than their share of 'em!

As an avid OSU/Big 10 guy it really pains me to side with David on this one. The SEC has been and continues to be the leader in college football. LSU has the toughest schedule this year and the absolute best teams in the country are in the SEC. It will be a SEC sweep this year. Sorry Rick, I would love to agree with you but any team outside the SEC is nothing more than a spectator this year. Come on Rick, if I, as an avid Big 10 fan, can see this obvious conclusion then you can come to grips with it too. It will be OK. We Big 10 fans have a new superman flying into Columbus...maybe.

Sorry, but the notion that LSU is notthe best team in the nation at this point is simply absurd. As far as the rest of the pack is concerned, well they have done nothing to distinguish themselves so it is no surprise that they are indistinguishable and we can argue about who really is number 2-15. Now, should LSU happen to lose to the Dawgs (I don't foresee that happening) then we can have one heckuva debate about relative conference strength etc.

PS. As long as there is a viable one loss, conference champion contender, I don't think there should be a LSU-Bama rematch. Bama had their shot (at home too).

While LSU probably is the best team in the nation, they haven't played a tough schedule at all Clay. Oregon, Alabama and Arkansas are the only good teams that LSU beat. Other than that they beat weak SEC conference foes. Florida 3-5 in conf play, Vanderbilt and Kentucky 2-6 in conf play, Tenn 1-7 in conf play, Miss State 2-6 in conf play, Ole Miss 0-8 in conf play. Seven teams in the SEC are at .500 or below in conf play. In the SEC East, two teams are above .500 overall, and in the SEC West only four teams above .500. Sorry Clay, but I just don't see it. Home games against FCS Southland Conference NW State (5-6), Kentucky (5-7), Florida (6-6), Auburn (7-5), Western Kentucky (Sunbelt Conf 7-5), and finally a good team in Arkansas. Two home games against teams with a winning record, and one of them plays in the Sunbelt Conference. Away games at Dallas to face Oregon. Dallas is hardly a neutral site for LSU. That would be like LSU playing Oregon in Seattle and saying it is a neutral field. Beat a good WV team on the road, then a 5-7 Tennessee, barely beat a good Alabama on the road, then beat a terrible Ole Miss on the road. Maybe in past years some of these teams were tough, but this year teams like Florida, Tennessee, Miss State and Auburn are bad. Four good wins this year by LSU (Oregon, WV, Alabama and Arkansas) otherwise they might as well be playing against junior college teams.

As an LSU fan and alumnus I would much rather play OSU or someone other than Alabama. But it appears that's the cards we are dealt. The only saving grace in this would be beating Alabama twice in one year......it might put Nicky over the edge.........but again we have a game to play yet and they do not.

The NCAA Divsion IA Power Ratings list the following as of 11/26/11
    1)LSU
    2)Ala
    3)Stanford
    4)Houston
    5)OSU
    6)Oregon
    7)VaTech
    8)USC
    9)Boise State
    10)Michigan

Of those 10 schools they also rate the SOS (strenght of schedule) 1 OSU, 2 LSU
I don't rank um, just report um

They rank the conferences for the 2011 season and for the first time this season the SEC is ranked 1, the Big 12 2 ,and the Big 10 3, Pac 12 4, ACC 5, Big East 6.........until this past weekend the Big 12 had a higher power rating.
And as much as it pains me the hottest team, other than us in the country right now may very well be USC
