I would have to agree with Gus on this one, heck even if Biden slips up that will be ok, what else would we expect? I saw Ryan in an interview with Brent Hume, well the parts that MSNBC show, (I can't remember if I have seen any excerpts on Stewart yet). Congressman Ryan I thought was having a hard time answering some questions.
I also agree with the assessment that at least he was trying something, and believe me I don't like what I see, but it is something that needs to be tackled, now why can't the left have something similar (and maybe it's out there) and it is based on some of their beliefs, as maybe a little bit higher tax on something or contribution from employee/employer, then both sides get togethere to compromise on a solution, using ideas from both sides?
I read somewhere that 401k's are really not providing the total solution for some like pensions did. They just aren't performing as sell to provide the retirement income needed. I'm sure a lot of that depends on how much one can invest and the lower income wage earners can't put much into to them. Companies do not want to really go back into creating pension plans, or smaller groups can't afford to, so social security really needs to be theree.
Maybe crunch some numbers, and create a maximum benefit, that gets paid out. Maybe instead of the 3 best years make it the best 5 years....(I was lucky enough to earn some good money for about 3 years skewing my social security benefit up). I'm sure if the partisanship would get put aside this could all get fixed.
