6.5 million 112 year olds!

    I don't see how this could be construed as corruption. Are the politicians leaving the 6.5 million on the SS payroll to garner the family votes of the deceased? Probably not likely. Additionally, there aren't 6.5 million 112 year olds receiving benefits. Not even close. According to a AP report, approximately 13 people of that age are receiving SS benefits. The report also states that in 2013 approximately 67,000 SS numbers were used to collect fraudulent returns. That's 1%. Yes, it would be nice to have the SS Admin keep better records of the deceased. Corruption? Hardly. This record keeping snafu goes back to 1940. How should we divvy up this blame?

    If not corrupt and wasteful then what do you call it, an accident? I don't care if it goes back to 1500 BC, isn't it about time we quit wasting money and asking for tax increases at the same time? Every government agency is bloated and mismanaged. Can we do this and survive our jobs? Why do several of you think we should give our government a pass on this. The debt and deficit would just maybe be reduced pretty quickly if our agencies were held accountable and required to be efficient! You guys may be willing to accept this but i can't understand why when you are getting your pockets picked! That is just one program. Multiply that by how many times? And if not corrupt and criminal, what do you call the people knowingly using those numbers and collecting the money. forget votes, this isn't political in the sense of a party because it is wrong period, no matter who is in charge. Do you guys think this is ok and accept this as business as usual?

    But Sandy in your first post you said 6.5 million people were 112 years old and receiving benefits. Then Clay posts its actually 13 people. Do you see why some would yawn at the headlines?

    Do you think, over the course your career in golf that 13 people might have gotten away with not paying the green fee? Jumped the fence. Scammed the system so to speak. You're painting every government employee as a corrupt buffoon but is that maybe because you are overly sensitive to the issue. I watch the local road construction contractors here and they triple the number of guys standing around leaning on a shovel compared to the local government forces. Waste and mismanagement are not only the purview of government. In theory your view about for-profit motivates waste, theft, and corruption out of the system is just that... a theory. It's in the private sector too. Just take a look around. It's everywhere. I don't have time to list all the examples now but I'll submit B.P. for one. Incompetent..check. Corrupt....check.... Wasteful.....check.

    I have to agree with Sandy, if the agency knows there is a problem why are they just sitting there and doing nothing about it. Accountability in government is not there, they know that no matter what they are going to receive their paycheck. Our government wastes more money finding problems in this office and that office, things that need to be fixed , but then just say they can't or won't fix it because then they would have to divert personnel from other areas to fix the problem. Well if the problem doesn't get fixed then it only gets bigger. Whether they are drawing benefits or not fix the problem. If some of these people are only using the SSNs to get jobs, what happens when they are found to be fraudulent numbers, the person just goes and gets another number and tries again. Someone needs to be held accountable here, the person using the false SSN needs to go to jail or be deported, and the people who are paid to manage the SSA need to get fired if the problem doesn't get fixed.

    Ron I said right away that there are only maybe 2 or 3 people of that age in the country at any one time but we are paying out benefits to 6.5 million listed as that age! They are all fraudulent cheats. We pretty well know who the very few 112 year olds are, we can count them on one hand. We are actually paying out to 6.5 million listed as 112 or older so that is a lot of cheatesr using dead peoples ID's collecting a ton of money. Shut them off tomorrow and start arresting them! The are frauds and cheats and our government agencies are too stupid to figure this out? A couple of phone calls could verify the 2 or 3 actual living people. It would be pretty easy to identify them! When the rest start coming to complain about suddenly not getting money, arrest every damn one of them! If they are illegally in this country, throw them out for committing felonies! How hard is that and how easy it would be to solve the problem! Don't know if I can make it much more clear than that. We never have had more than probably 4 or 5 reach that age in a big year.

    How are we supposed to arrest and imprison 6.5 million people? The prisons are already full. That would require growing the federal prison system, which we should probably assume is also horribly mismanaged

    My source comes from a couple of highly connected people that I trust much more than a reporter or a government official. I agree, we can't put them all in prison but we can send them back to China, Mexico, Central America, Mid Eastern countries and several other countries they came from. The remainder we can toss in jail around the country or let Sheriff Joe put them in tents and pink underwear. I don't care how we do it, just stop the cheating and abuse. Our government gives out over $150 billion annually in misused funds. I really think we can do better.

    I don't buy Sandy's information about them paying out to 6.5 million, I'm sure they need to clean their books up and start removing folks that have been dead for 40 years. I do take exception to how every government run program lacks accountability and it is costing us tax dollars every year. Yes the government has been corrupt since the beginning of government, but the government has its hands in so many more things these days and you don't have to look beyond your local area to see federal waste. We recently had a woman running the food stamp program a couple counties over out of her basement, how easy is it to steal government money when a federal benefit office is run out of a home basement? So far indicted on 1 count of theft over $250k and 1 count of theft over $60k. I think as wealthy as our country that everyone should have access to healthcare they can afford, but again when the government gets involved its more room to screw it up. I'll throw this out there again, it was mentioned in an earlier post, the private sector has less room for waste, they have to make a profit or face the consequences, who pays for the consequences when the government f's up, WE DO! And no its not necessarily our elected officials, they do contribute some to it, but more often its the people that they appoint that have no background in the private sector, career bureaucrats, they don't know where the money comes from but by god they know they have to spend it all or risk not seeing as much next year.

    An internal government study just verified that $180 billion per year is directly related to government waste meaning mismanagement of virtually every program. The immigration program alone is a lie. Border Patrol staff members are not even allowed to report groups of over 20 crossing the border. You can have 200 crossing and the current administration will only allow 20 to be reported so the safe border statistics hold up. Only a small handful are deported and almost none make their hearing dates. If you really want to check on ID"s being used illegally, go no further than immigration. Immigrants from Mexico are actually the minority of illegal crossings. WE pretty much have an open door policy and then provide benefits we should not be granting. Border Patrol staff completely have their hands tied. I would prefer to believe the information from the hard working Border Patrol staff than any denials I read in the news.
