My Toro 4500-d has devolved an intermittent starting issue when it is hot. Sometimes when the machine has been running for awhile and is shut off it blows the 10 amp start fuse when you try to restart it. due to issues it had before I started I'm leaning towards a starter that's starting to fail. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before.

Very common problem with the older ones. I ended up adding an extra start relay. I believe Toro has a bulletin on some models that requires adding a relay as I did.

Did you ever get this solved? A model serial number would be helpful for diagnosing next time. As Roland states above it is very common on older 4500D, 5410D or anything with a Kubota engine for that matter. I have used the DRK kit from Nations starter alternator with success on a Denso 16611-63013 from a 5410 that had that problem. https://www.nationsstarteralternator.com/Denso-Solenoid-Repair-Kit-with-Plunger-2-contact-p/drk%20rebuild%20kit.htm
Here is a write up on adding a relay into the circuit.
