Charge Your Batteries

Jun 4, 2019

Summer has finally made it's way to Houston. People that were begging for the rain to stop are now praying for a little moisture. Cultural practices for the golf course are in full swing everywhere, which means 10 to 12 hour days for a lot of people. Add the heat into the mix and there are several more 12 hour days to keep the grass healthy.

Superintendents can always find more things to do everyday to keep their property looking its best, but they need to remember to balance their work lives with their personal lives.  Remember that your teams also need to have balance between work and home. In most cases, you are not going to get a check mark beside every task scheduled for that day and that very task can be completed in the next day or two.

Take some much needed time to spend with family or friends. Go see a movie in the air conditioning or take a fishing trip for the afternoon. You and your team need this time to keep the batteries charged and the people you spend time with away from work also need you in their life. I know that it is very hard to leave the course with a multitude of tasks to complete, but I promise you they will be waiting for you when you get back to work. Have fun this summer.
