Rep. Lou Correa (D-CA) and Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) have re-introduced legislation that would provide a valuable tax credit for either the purchase of zero-emission equipment or the retrofit of existing gas-powered equipment. The Promoting Reduction of Emissions through Landscaping Act would provide a 40% tax credit up to $25,000 each year and up to $100,000 over the course of 10 consecutive years. Eligible equipment includes anything from handheld blowers, edgers and trimmers to commercial mowers. The credit would apply to equipment put in service after Dec. 31, 2024.
This legislation enjoys a broad range of support, from the GCSAA to the Sierra Club. As GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans notes in the congressional press release, “This legislation provides a voluntary incentive for golf course superintendents who wish to either purchase zero-emission landscape equipment or upgrade their existing equipment”.
GCSAA will work hard with Heinrich and Correa to see this important legislation enacted into law.
