Working for you: GCSAA Video Training Series

GCSAA launched the new entry-level Video Training Series in spring 2025 to provide GCSAA members with an accessible, high-quality resource for training new crew members. The series includes 11 concise videos that introduce fundamental agronomic and operational topics, helping facilities onboard crew members more efficiently and consistently. With the golf season starting soon in many parts of the country, this is great tool for training new crew.

Available in English and Spanish, the Video Training Series has seen strong early engagement, with more than 25,000 views to date, demonstrating its value as an in-demand training tool for the industry.

“We are in the planning stages of beefing up our safety program and I ran across the Safety Basics training video in the Learning Hub. The information was absolutely spot on as to what we are looking to be able to provide for our team members,” said Adam Wortman, 18-year member and golf course superintendent at Hart Ranch Golf Club in Rapid City, S.D.

Creation of the videos is a response to member feedback asking for training tools for their crews, with topics and video content informed by direct input from GCSAA members. Like the old Superintendent Video Workshop Series, superintendents and their teams can use these videos for training and refreshers.

The current topics available include:
• Bunker Maintenance
• Crew Etiquette
• Cup Cutting
• Greens Mowing
• Hand Watering
• Handheld Equipment
• Ride on Equipment
• Safety Basics
• Tee Service
• This is a Golf Course
• Walk Behind Greens Mowing

“The Video Training Series reflects exactly what it means to be a member-driven association. It was created in direct response to member feedback asking for practical, accessible tools to train their crews,” said Kelli Norwood, director, learning and career development. “With 11 concise videos covering fundamental agronomic and operational topics, the series helps facilities onboard new team members more efficiently and deliver consistent, high-quality training across their operations.”

Since launching in 2025, the English version has generated more than 25,700 views, with the Spanish version adding nearly 2,300 more since its October release – clear evidence that this is a valued, in-demand resource.

“By offering the content in both English and Spanish, we’re helping superintendents ensure their teams have a shared foundation of knowledge, whether they’re training new hires or providing refreshers. This series strengthens crews, supports superintendents and ultimately elevates the standard of the profession,” said Norwood.

Additional series are planned for future release to provide superintendents a robust catalogue of content helpful to developing skilled employees.
