Good comments by Andrew a young guy (at 40 he's young) and Ron, not as young. All the newer tech gadgets aid in helping you do your job but one must still get out and do it. Having a crew that respects you for your work ethic and your knowledge goes a lot further than one impressed by your latest iphone 9S. Arriving early and staying late goes a long way to holding onto a good job. Part of our country's problem now is there is too much TV watching, computer surfing and video game playing. Kids need to get outside and actually play a sport or game versus simulation on a computer or xbox. The same can apply to our profession as well. Now unlike Andrew I seldom walk aroound in bare feet at work but if it works for him so be it............I happen to know whats on the ground beneath my bare feet lol. And good luck Sandy, wish I could have made it to 72...........man you gonna be a rich republican like Scott talks about.

My question for Jacob is why go on a public forum and say these things? Do you realize that people talk in this industry? You may have just cost yourself a job, or at least an interview.

Guys, you are way overlooking this. I used language that others used. "flat belly" was used earlier in a post to describe my generation. Is my point not valid that we should do whatever it takes to get the job we want? I'm confused by your negativity towards my drive to want a promotion and success?! And whoever made a scout comment... I am an Eagle scout and live by the code every day. As for my words being "in the public eye". Its a forum. The original post is so far gone from what was originally posted that this thread should have been closed after the first page. I hope everyone can realize this is a forum... its for rhetoric and argument. If you cant handle others opinions of a topic then stay off them all together. Ones opinion is their own and they are entitled to it. Hope to meet some of you in person some day so we can talk turf and technology!

I think that you are misunderstanding the proper usage of the word "overlooking". I don't think that "flat belly" is used to specifically refer to your generation, I think it is more used to refer to a stage of life.

Some of your original argument may have had merit, you presented it poorly.

Doing "whatever it takes" is a dangerous philosophy to subscribe to, as it explicitly states that ethics or morals may to be excluded/ignored in the pursuit of a goal. Throughout human history there are a couple of examples where that hasn't worked out so well.

Whoa, I need to visit the forum more often!! Jacob, I am neither young, nor "old", as I am 39. Just sort of stuck in the middle I guess. I have no idea how to use my iPad, but my turf doesn't care. My 10 year old daughter is helping me along with the iPad thing. I think what you are doing is fine, voicing your opinion in the face of opposition, but you must realize how it is being perceived. You are working in an industry that boasts a "brotherhood" of sorts where people help eachother out and honestly, you will NEED these guys someday because things will get out of hand on your course and you'll need some fresh perspective. Voicing your opinion in the way that you are (confrontational, arrogant, know-it-all'ish) will greatly reduce the likelihood of these guys giving you solid advice from their years of experience. I'm not saying you should stop voicing your opinion, just think about how it will be perceived. After all, we work in an industry where perception is reality!!

Hey Jake- at some point in your career you will realize that 'filter' that you have in the back of your head that goes over everything you say or write before it comes out is there for a reason. Take this from someone that used to be a bit like you when I was your age. Reflecting on the things you have gone through the last two years and learning from it is a start.

    Mat,

I had plenty of time to reflect myself on the 2500 plus mile track back to Florida from Deer Lodge. I hope all is well in Dana Point.

    Jake,

Sometimes it is better to walk away and lose the argument. Nothing is gained by being pedantic in your responses, to guys who helped create opportunities for us all through dedication to their craft. People do talk in this industry and my big mouth has probably cost me a couple of jobs in my young career. Thankfully I have had a few wonderful mentors to help be grow professionally but more important, personally.
