I chose not to watch last night and the bride and I watched a pre-corded and the second episode of Coma, the old movie remake from years ago. Sure anything Michelle had to wax poetically about Barry I had heard before. But I do plan on listening to Bill tonight (hope Tracy isn't monitoring the forum any longer). Though his ethics and morality may differ from mine (we all have our weaknesses and demons unfortunately) he was a consummate politician. After his first term he realized he HAD TO MOVE TO THE MIDDLE to govern the whole and he did and he won. I don't think the anointed one is smart enough to realize that.

Good comments David about President Clinton or as he is called in our house, slick willy, I think the president is smart enough, because he is hammering the republicans on how they moved so far to the right on personal issues, heck President Obama in many policies, (not all) is in the middle already.

I didn't watch all of it, but there were many women speakers talking about the president supporting and allowing them to make choices for themselves on their health issues and also about the equal pay for equal work issue.

Mel I am truly assuming the comment about Obama being in the middle was tongue in cheek......ya know a little funny to give us a giggle at the end of a hot day. If he is in the middle then so am I.

    Well, 2-0 for the Dems.
Again, not watching the convention but catching up on blogs and highlight clips

If this election is about swaying the people who are on the fence and reassuring the people who voted for Obama in 2008, they've been hitting it out of the park. Clinton is the master.
They've successfully framed the right as concerned with nothing more than removing Obama from office, forget the country - REMOVE OBAMA. The people in the middle just aren't going to share that kind of hate. You can't build a platform from it. Here's a few clips if your tv is off.

    [youtube">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0QNbT3xst4[/youtube">

If you have the stomach for it, the speech the first lady made was also pretty stirring. If you think it's not going to resonate with someone sitting on the fence or wringing their hands over Obama, you'd be mistaken. She did an amazing job.
    [youtube">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTPdKUA9Ipg[/youtube">

Elizabeth Warren's speech was all stuff I've heard before, and wasn't special in anyway, to me at least.

As usual Clinton delivered. As much as he was disparaged while in office he is a guy than can bring people together, which in my opinion Obama cannot. He is a great communicator and a very very poor persuader...a big difference in the two.

I thought the speech of Mrs. Obama was pretty disingenuous........I have a hard time believing some of stories of yore of her and Barry and their dating trials and tribulations.......the car with holes in in, the shoes a size two small (what he doesn't know his shoe size)...dumpster diving for a coffee table. They were both working for a law firm the time. Hey but some were drinking up the kool aid

Im gonna go back to Clints statement.. "If you dont do the job, you gotta go!" I still have seen no ownership taken for our CURRENT state of the country. No budget for 3 years, debt has gone up 5T, 46.7 mill on food stamps, 23 mill out of work. Has added 4.5 mill in jobs but lost 5 mill in over his term. Where are the speeches on his record. In the speeches I heard, they are well done and delivered perfectly but where is record of achievements. Dont ask dont tell, gay marriage, abortion, GM (remains to be seen if success). When is Bush out of the picture and Obama policies at fault?

Funny how after 8 years of Bill Clinton most democrats were distancing themselves from him. Now they idolize him. A guy who when he held the most powerful job on the planet and was compromised by a 20 something flirt thong snapper. Jee wiz, Bill is the guy who gave away the farm to China, played patty cake with terrorists and took credit for something his republican congress forced him to do. I give Bill credit for getting out of the way to save his own neck. It makes me admire Obama for at least risking his presidency for his ideals, as miss guided as they are.

I have only heard replays of some of the convention events. We are going through overseeding prep and I have been getting home around 7 and have felt more like a quick dinner and going to bed rather than any television. What I have heard were some pleasant but questionable excerpts of the first ladies speech and even less of of several others. Steny Hoyer was babbling about the opposition not caring about America but simply wanting to beat Obama. Anyone with a brain knows that isn't true since they greatly disagree with his governance and direction and the impact it will have on the American people. I have heard the Nazi / Hitler card played three times so far but not necessarily related to the convention itself. I heard a Florida democrat official who is Jewish state that Christians want to kill or convert all Jews so the second coming will take place. I have heard numerous interviews referencing the republicans hating different groups. Hearing only a few of Clinton's speech lines, I think he did a better job of promoting his 8 years than really promoting Obama. He did lay all the blame on republicans going all the way back to his two terms. That is kind of funny considering republicans really made him look pretty good because he was smart enough to move to the middle and take credit for much of their legislation. I hope to be home early enough to hear President Obama give his speech first hand and have more of a first hand perspective rather than all the analysis from various press outlets and pundits.

Everybody wants to blame Bush...I get that, why take responsibility for your own actions and policies. Does anyone remember slick Willy's part in the disaster with Freddie and Fannie? I didn't have much respect for the guy before and even less now. How convincing is it to the fence sitters to ask them to give Obama another chance? Implies that he has failed. How many chances does the guy get or deserve? Didn't have a record before, has one now. Either he has earned your vote or he hasn't.

It is kinda funny to look at the posts about the Republican Convention in this Politics forum. No one really attacked the Republicans. It was mostly Republicans praising the Convention. Now, under the Democratic Convention most every one of the posts are made by Republicans, some personally attacking Obama and others just attacking the party. Kinda interesting don't ya think? :D

Rick after reading your post I went back and re-read those concerning the Republican convention. Sandy began the thread, Mel chipped in as usual, Keith added a comment or two and then it basically turned into photo shoot of Kurta's BBQ cooking prowess.........my only comment was Tracy was pissed after seeing that hawg scorced on the pit...........the RNC was kind of a non issue, good or bad. I complimented the former prez and Tracy will be pissed again.........just thought Michelles comments were about as far reaching as those that didn't like Ann Romney's speech. Maybe the guy will blow my doors off tonight and he flips me to his side.

Did not delve into a couple things in my last post but here goes. What if the Republican convention had Vote Whitey campaign buttons like the Democrat convention had Vote Black You Never Go Back?? How bout the delegates booing putting God and recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel into their platform. Should it be assumed the Democratic party is Anti-Semite, anti religion, and racist? I dont believe the majority is at all but judging by the delegates they may have a problem.

Tonight, Mr. Obama's speech will be short and sweet

We will now introduce common sense into our government

We shall work with each other in the House and Senate - like "Brotherly Love"

Abortion - no government involved - let the ladies do as they wish

Afghanistan were out tomorrow - Iraq the same

    Gay marriage - no problem

We will have a budget in place by October 1 , 2012

We will keep out military strong

We will shift to a King and Queen

We will tax the super rich by 5% -

    What the hell - it's a start ain't it?????

That is what I said David, no one attacked anyone in the Republican Convention post, but when the Democratic post was made it is mostly Republicans who have posted attacks. Let's see..."I don't think the anointed one is smart enough to realize that". And "I thought the speech of Mrs. Obama was pretty disingenuous........I have a hard time believing some of stories of yore of her and Barry and their dating trials and tribulations.......the car with holes in in, the shoes a size two small (what he doesn't know his shoe size)...dumpster diving for a coffee table. And Jon, your so far out there that I will send smoke signals to you. Just because someone works for a law firm does not mean they make huge amounts of money.

I guess I have some questions of Mr. Ryan and his favorite complaint, the automotive plant in Wisconsin that closed before Obama took office, that is Obama's fault. What, Mr. Ryan, did you do to save those jobs, the one your friends held? What legislation did you introduce to save that plant? Your so concerned about it now, but what did you do back then? And Mr. Romney...When was the last time you actually had to work a day and worry about whether you could pay your bills? And why won't you release your tax returns for more than two years, like your dad did? Do you have any off shore accounts that you keep your money hidden in?

May as well be the "New" Democratic Party........(adlibbing mine alone).

    Stooge Villagarosa:

"OK, everybody. We need a 2/3 Yea to 1/3 No vote. All in favor of God being put back in the platform scream Yea."

"Ya, sure, whatever. No one cares anyway. Yeeeeeaaaa."

    "All those opposed scream No."

    "NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

"Wait a minute, let me try this again. All those in favor say Yea."

    "Yea."

    All those oposed say No."

    "NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO."

(Followed by round 3 of the same)

"Well, actually, we don't reallt care what you think. The yeas have it. Welcome back, God."

"Now, pretty much the same thing all over again. All those who want Jeruslalem back on the platform as Israel's capital scream Yea."

    "Yeeeaaa. Jerusalem? Where's that?"

    All those opposed whisper No."

    "NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO."

Well, like above, we really don't care what you people pretending to think to yourselves as actually serving a purpose to us as delegates think. I hope you're having fun in Charlotte. Is your teacher's union paying you to be here? Well, anyway, where was I??? Oh ya, we're shoving this down your throat like we did Obamacare to the majority of Americans. Now be good Democrats and shut up and listen to Bill Clinton."

    wow..
this has got to sting some of you guys.
Ah well, you'll live. And hey, look on the bright side, it'll give you something else to bitch about for another four years. And you know, maybe the Republican party will finally figure out what the hell went wrong back in 2001 that got them to this point. There's been a stellar string of fail emanating from the right since then.
    There's a reason for that.

David, ask my wife what shoe size I was wearing when we met and what shoe size I wear now....ask her about my old mustang convertible, no rust but the roof was leaking. Luckily we didn't have to dumpster dive for a couch, but the recliner that came with my apartment at the golf course, ask her about that.....although she did find it comfortable when she was pregnant with Nick.

    Steve,

It doesn't sting at all. I'm just sayin' this is what the Democrat Party has become.

"Shut up while we ram it down your throat. It's good for you, you just don't know it yet. You're stupid and we know it. That's why we're smarter than you."

Did you happen to hear last night while you were blogging Nancy Pelosi's exchange with Wolfe Blitzer? Wolfe asked her about the God thing. She actually said in so many words......"Wolfe, it's over. We took care of it. It's over."

    "But Madam Pelosi, the Demo......."

"Wolfe, I said it's over. We're not talking about that anymore. It's done."

What she meant to say was....."Wolfe, you're not being a good left wing media supporter. Now shut up, get in line, and don't ask me about that again!"

What he meant to say was....."Yes Madam Queen."

Go ahead and vote for 'em if you want.

Obama gave, read, his flowery speech in fine form last night. The only problem, is he is asking for four more years and asking you to reduce your expectations! One has to ask, why didn't you do all these flowery things in your first term? His oratory reading was great but he said very little of substance. I am beyond sick of hearing the term fairness and fair share. Sorry, in this country, those that work the hardest achieve the most and should be rewarded, not considered greedy. Nice read by the president last night with 100% for delivery and a very poor score for content. There are still too many unemployed. This will decide the election. Which party gives them the confidence that the economy will honestly turn around will be the only issue for this election.

Working at a law firm does not guarantee a large salary, thus the term junior partners....in pay as well. BUT at Shoe Station for $25 you can find an acceptable pair of mens dress shoes and they will help you figure out your size if you do not already know. And Mel what does your shoe size and car have to do with the president? Lost the comparison. Both came from middle class families, Michelle upper middle class giving then benefit of the doubt, Ivy League grads........no cars with holes all the way through them and if he did in fact dumpster dive I had better leave my next comment to myself.

    Rick,

Paul Ryan just quoted what Obama told the GM workers while he was campaigning for president. I pulled the text from his speech.

A lot of guys I went to high school with worked at that GM plant. Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said: "I believe that if our government is there to support you … this plant will be here for another hundred years." That's what he said in 2008.

Well, as it turned out, that plant didn't last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. And that's how it is in so many towns today, where the recovery that was promised is nowhere in sight.

If you are going to bash someone please do your research before you embarass yourself. As for your comments about Romney, you obviously didn't do any research on that either. On your comments on transparency, I think Romney should agree to release the same number of years of tax returns that Obama released, if Obama agrees to have his records from Columbia and Harvard unsealed.

I think the most telling slogan out of the convention was that we all belong to the government! I kind of think someone got that backwards. That sounds more like the old soviet block countries but I know many get very upset at any hint of comparison to socialism. The government answers to us and they all better darn sure start getting the message. Turn every single one of them out of office no matter the party, if they don't understand that!

    Mr. Kronwall,

First of all I wasn't bashing anyone, I was simply stating questions I would like to ask the Republican candidates. Second of all, you can stuff your research where the sun don't shine. :D Mr. Ryan has blamed Obama for the plant closing. It closed before Obama took office in 2009. And if you read on PolitiFactCheck Wisconsin about Mr. Ryan's accusations about the auto plant and Obama it states "Ryan said Obama broke his promise to keep a Wisconsin GM plant from closing. But we don't see evidence he explicitly made such a promise -- and more importantly, the Janesville plant shut down before he took office. We rate Ryan's statement False.

What Sen. Obama said was actually this, taken from Kevin Siefert, Ryan's spokesmen for his US House Campaign..."And I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years. The question is not whether a clean energy economy is in our future, it's where it will thrive. I want it to thrive right here in the United States of America; right here in Wisconsin; and that's the future I'll fight for as your president."

Hmmm, I guess you should have done a little more research before you opened your blowhole. :o So what did Mr. Ryan do to keep it from closing? How hard is that for you to understand? You can think what you want about Mr Obama's college records being sealed, but I asked about Mr. Romneys tax returns. Even people in his own party are telling him to release more years of his tax returns.
