America used to be the world leader in moral and ethical treatment of people. I do not know if we can say that anymore. Leading with fear and hate, while preaching Christian values, is not the combination that my Grandmother taught me in Sunday school all those years ago. This thread started about a horrific event and turned into why America needs guns and should repel needy people. I guess that we should just rip old Lady Liberty down and dig out all state lines to fill them with shark infested moats.

We used to lead the world due to the fact that we would take the high road and make the tough decisions based on a that you could go to the USA and work hard and live a dream. Neighbors helped neighbors. Communities banded together to help other. Not based on religion or skin color. The only basis was someone needed help!

Now those that want power refuse to talk to others that have or want power becasue of the (D) or (R) printed after their name on a TV scroll. We dont help others. We, as a country, have changed. THe world see's this. We are not the beacon of hope for those needing hope. It is shamefull. It isnt political. It is un-christian. It is uncaring. It is un American. I was always taught to never look down on someone else, enless you are reaching a hand out to help them up! WOuld you say this applies to our America today for the most part?

Rant over. Enjoy your Turkey and all the trimmings. May you and all of your families be safe in travels to and from.

That may all be true, but I don't remember reading in my history books about us "inviting in" citizens of countries we were at war with. We didn't really stretch a hand out to the North Vietnamese to come live here while we sent young men over there to die, I don't recall asking any North Koreans either, and we all know how our country felt about Japanese(even those who were Japanese-Americans) in World War II. We are at war with Syria for all intents and purposes. We are trying to bomb ISIS out of Syria and at the same time depose the Syrian leadership. So maybe opening our door up for women, children, and military aged males from a nation, region, and culture that tends to dislike us isn't such a great idea. Anyway..... I'll be here in my bunker, polishing my crosses, and cleaning my .50 cal.

Joel, I agree with everything you say except that first line. America has never been "the world leader in moral and ethical treatment of people."

Genocide of indigenous tribes, slavery, denying women and minorities the vote, internment of law abiding Japanese Americans in WWII, segregation, communist witch hunts, prejudicial treatment of ethnic immigrants Irish, Chinese, Mexicans et al, and even today we have the highest rate of incarceration in the world.

    American humanity is a myth.

You know what...if all that is the case then I think we need to stand up for all those wanting/wishing to come here. Especially those poor Syrian refugees President Obama wants to bring into this God forsaken part of the world.
It is for their own good that we put an immediate halt to their passage.
Wow, it turns out Trump has a bigger heart than thought...
It is best we deport all those that are here illegally lest they get tangled up in all the "awfulness" that is America.

I was inspired to dust off the Andy Griffith Show tapes after reading Joel's post. But then I saw Steve's post and settled on just kicking the neighbor's dog.

Conspicuously absent in this discussion is B.O. declared a pause on Iraqi refugees in 2011. Apparently B.O. was void of the values he so espouses now that there is a call for a pause with Syrian refugees. B.O. must have been afraid of the women and children.

I am still amazed at all of the hate that is spoken over this issue. Everything has to have an agenda. Why is that? People argue about what the killer in Colorado should be called. I killer or a terrorist or a lefty or a righty or or or... Who cares what he is called? I dont! Just lock his ass up.

Hate speech will lead to more violoence and this has been proven throughout history. Politicians spouting lies and refusing to apologize even when facts smack them in the face. Every news channe, hell even differnt shows on any channel, have agendas. It is almost impossible not to have to pick a side these days.

Logic means nothing. Finger pointing and the ability to talk without saying anything is the new important!

The deire to help you fellow man has been pushed to the wayside for the most part in our society and the only laws that are right are the one's that you agree with. Does this sould like a path to prosperiety to anyone? Can we not find moderation and the ability to discuss issues without name calling and raised voice? I fear not.

Fundementalist are hijacking most religions. Not only Islam. We are ok with this though. Killing of innocent people as long as it is done "for" something you agree with is oK? Preaching hate will bring hate.

    Good luck to us all!

Wouldn't life be so wonderful if everything was as black and white and simple as most want to believe. The Syrian refugees were displaced many years before you "went to war" Indirectly or maybe directly they are the result of you going after Sadam and his arsenal of yellow cake uranium and weapons of mass destruction.

Step up to the plate boys, reap the rewards of your ongoing actions

Clay, I abhor cruelty to animals.

    Or Muslims.

    Or anyone else.

    Except Trump.
