GCM Magazine

by Shane Conroy | Jun 08, 2023

"All I get is a magazine."

We’ve all heard it once or twice. The saying is actually partially true, you do get a magazine — and the magazine is an important component of GCSAA membership. Part of GCSAA’s mission is to advance the superintendent profession. Part of advancing the profession is promoting it through GCM magazine and GCMOnline.

#44: GCM

Between GCM and GCMOnline, you get first-class access to industry news, research, turf operations, environmental stewardship practices, advocacy efforts, personnel profiles, product news, tournament information, career counsel, the ever-popular Photo Quiz and Final Shot and more. Superintendents across the globe know about GCM and have been trusting it as the go-to industry publication for decades. However, my intent in this post is to not highlight the great content in the magazine – that speaks for itself.

What I want to focus on goes back to what I mentioned in the opening of this post, the part about advancing the superintendent profession through GCM. Every superintendent knows the commitment and lifestyle needed to care for a golf course year-round. Unfortunately, most of the general public or even core golfers know what goes into maintaining a course.

While GCM is not geared toward the general public or core golfers, it does tell the story of our great profession. Telling this story is a crucial part of promoting golf course superintendents. Golf course superintendents are professional land managers, environmental stewards, leaders, mentors, highly trained, educated, involved, benevolent, and dedicated to name a handful. Sharing this with those who do not see this day in and day out goes a long way in promoting our profession.

So yes, with your GCSAA membership, you do receive a magazine. And aside from the industry-leading content that’s so valuable to GCSAA members, it’s not only members who read the magazine. Getting our great stories out to the public, golfers, allied associations and more promotes and advances everyone in our profession; and it is just another great benefit of GCSAA membership.

As always, if you’ve missed a previous post in this series, please check them out below:
