Across the country, GCSAA chapters are finding new ways to foster camaraderie, share knowledge and build lasting professional relationships. One of the most effective, and fun, methods? Joint chapter events. These friendly competitions bring together superintendents and turf professionals from neighboring chapters for a mix of golf, networking, and a bit of rivalry as well.
Take the Minnesota GCSA and Wisconsin GCSA Border Battle, for example. This recent annual event has become popular with members on both sides of the state line. More than just a golf event, the Border Battle is an opportunity for superintendents to swap ideas and build relationships that go beyond state boundaries.
A similar spirit drives the Can-Am Cup, hosted by the Michigan GCSA and Ontario GCSA. This cross-border event with an international flair, American and Canadian superintendents gather for a day of competition and collaboration. There is no doubt a friendly rivalry, but the emphasis is always on learning from one another and strengthening the professional golf course management community on both sides of the Great Lakes.
Further south, the Southern Illinois GCSA and Mississippi Valley GCSA have their own annual tradition with the Chapter Challenge. Rotating venues on either side of the Mississippi, a competitive and welcoming atmosphere make this event one of the highlights of the season for both chapters.
The Ohio GCSAA chapters also showcase the power of collaboration through their annual Ohio Cup. This spirited event brings together teams from the state’s three chapters, Northern Ohio, Greater Cincinnati, and the Ohio GCSA, for a day of golf, fellowship, and professional connection. While bragging rights are certainly on the line, it's getting together to build relationships that truly drives the event.
These joint events do more than just promote good golf. They build bridges, create mentorship opportunities and strengthen chapters. In an industry where shared experiences and relationships are invaluable, these collaborations show that we’re stronger, and better, together.
