Photos from my April Travels

by Dave Phipps | Apr 27, 2023

I was privileged to attend the retirement celebration for Randy Shultz, CGCS at Tualatin Country Club. Randy provided 39 years of extraordinary service to his facility and the Oregon GCSA. His club's membership and local GCSAA members were in attendance at the event.

Colorado Golf Day was on April 12 and was well represented. We spent the morning mingling with legislators and then sat in on the morning's procedures on the House floor. While in town I enjoyed a few visits with members planning First Green events this spring.

The following week I traveled to Washington, D.C. with Oregonians for Food & Shelter to meet with Oregon's lawmakers.  Meeting with four House members and two staffers was a busy day on the Hill. GCSAA's Bob Helland was available and joined us, as well!

Katrin just happened to be presenting at the RISE conference on understanding pesticide labels at the same hotel I was staying in. She presented with Eric David, CGCS from US Navel Academy Club, and they spoke about the use of spray nozzles and GCSAA's BMPs.

Well done, Kat!

Not my typical picture of an event but this summed up the weather for the day at the Oregon GCSA Open Golf Tournament. Regardless of the conditions, a good time was had by all.

The following week, the weather made a turn for the better so I hitched a ride with Brian and Kyle Cloud and headed east to visit with Members Sean Hoolehan, CGCS at the Wild Horse Resort, and Tyler Gabriel at Birch Creek Golf Course in Pendleton, Ore. The Confederated Tribe purchased the old Pendleton Country Club which was not doing well and has put Tyler in charge of bringing it back to life. It was great to see the work that he and Sean have been putting into the property. Brian and Kyle were there to help them with their safety program and make sure that they had a solid OSHA-compliant program in place.
