Great way to improve leadership skills and extend your personal network
On behalf of GCSAA, I thank you for your support of the national association as well as your affiliated chapter. It’s been an interesting last 18 months to say the least. Covid, drought, wildfires and labor shortages have all provided challenges for the industry throughout the Southwest Region. On a more positive note, rounds played through August are up 11.3 percent nationally and the industry continues to build upon the success we experienced during the initial stages of the pandemic.
As the Southwest Field Representative, I am reaching out to all of our Southwest Region members in an attempt to get you more personally involved with your chapter. Your chapter offers you a multitude of benefits that foster your career success and that of your golf facility, including:
- resources dedicated to the advancement of your career
- relevant information to help you stay ahead of the game
- tools you can use to effectively manage your facility
- widespread community of peers in the industry to keep you connected
- a voice in industry-wide initiatives to sustain the future of golf
I understand that your free time is at a premium. Increased demands at work, family commitments and civic responsibilities can make chapter participation difficult. However, as a golf industry professional, I urge you to make a commitment to your future, the superintendent profession and to the game by attending chapter meetings, serving on a member committee and giving consideration to serving on your respective chapter’s Board of Directors.
Your chapters have done an exemplary job providing quality and affordable education, golf events at some of the finest facilities throughout Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada, and above all, a great chance to network with fellow superintendents and our supportive affiliate members and sponsors.
Let’s support their time and hard work through attendance and volunteering a little bit of time to help the association grow and continue to succeed. Serving on a committee or the board will improve your leadership skills, provide a sense of duty and accomplishment and extend your professional and personal networks. I can guarantee that you will get more out of it than you put into it.
Contact your Chapter Executive for more information on committee service or running for your board. Numerous chapters have upcoming elections and can use your expertise and assistance.
I look forward to seeing you at some upcoming events and best of luck during the fall golf season!
