Lakewood Golf Course to host event focused on municipal and daily-fee operations
The inaugural California Community Golf Summit will be held on July 8 at Lakewood Golf Course in Lakewood, Calif. The summit, co-hosted by the American Society of Golf Course Architects, California Golf Course Owners Association, GCSAA, National Links Trust, Southern California Golf Association, and the Southern California PGA, will focus on shaping the future of golf at municipal and daily-fee golf properties.
Municipal golf accounts for approximately 22 percent of the golf courses in California and produces 40 percent of the total rounds of golf played in the state. Southern California is home to two of the largest municipal golf systems in the United States, the City of Los Angeles and the County of Los Angeles.
The summit kicks off at 8:00 a.m. with registration and continental breakfast and programming will begin at 9:00 a.m. Former Golf Channel personality Geoff Shackleford will serve as the emcee for the day and also provide his insights into the current state of municipal and daily-fee golf in California. The summit will adjourn at 2:45 p.m.
Topics will include existential threats to the game of golf, making your golf course more welcoming, high-impact agronomy on a small budget, community programming success stories, how golf design can enhance community golf and attracting underrepresented communities to the game.
GCSAA members Jon Christenson of JC Resorts, Jordan Gilmore, CGCS with P.W. Gillibrand, Jorge Mendoza, Superintendent at Green River Golf Course and Marc Lilleberg of American Golf will serve on the agronomic panel. All GCSAA members in attendance will receive .45 education points.
The cost of the event is $50 per person and includes continental breakfast, lunch and education sessions. Registration and more information is available.
GCSAA and its collaborating partners look forward to seeing you at Lakewood on July 8.
