Indiana superintendents from across the state have stepped up once again. This time, it is to ensure golf has a seat at the table at the congressional level. Last month, the final GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador positions were filled in the state, pairing each of the nine members of the House and two members of the Senate with GCSAA members.
The goal of the GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador program is to match a member of GCSAA with each member of Congress, and to build strong relationships between them. The program will establish a network of committed volunteers to serve as the “go-to” people for lawmakers and their staff on golf course management issues. Ambassadors will receive the tools and training needed to become effective advocates for the profession. Resources include a welcome packet to be sent upon signing up, access to online advocate training videos available on demand in Ambassador Central, and invitations to participate in advocacy webinars throughout the year.
GCSAA Grassroots Ambassadors advocate for the entire profession, support the future of the industry and are tuned in to the key issues affecting golf. Some of the areas Grassroots Ambassadors focus on include: COVID-19, nutrient management, water management and labor.
GCSAA offers the Grassroots Ambassador additional information and training services such as webinars and the Grassroots Ambassador Academy at the annual Golf Industry Show where ambassadors interact with grassroots trainers and learn the art of political engagement. The GCSAA government affairs team of Chava McKeel, Bob Helland and Michael Lee are also available to assist ambassadors as they connect with members of Congress.
A huge thank you to the GCSAA members leading the way in Indiana:
