The Friend of the Golf Course Superintendent program allows golfers to show their appreciation for your team and the hard work you put into managing the course and protecting the environment.

This exciting program from GCSAA lets golfers get involved in protecting the future of the game by supporting superintendents and the important role they play.

Friend FAQs

During the 2019 GCSAA Annual Meeting in San Diego, bylaws changes to implement the Friend of the Golf Course Superintendent program (along with the Multi-Member promotion and the Facility membership category) were approved by the membership. There efforts were created to help support the association's mission.
In recent years, GCSAA has engaged higher profile initiatives outside of the golf course maintenance sector such as Rounds 4 Research, First Green and ongoing advocacy efforts. With theses initiatives, awareness and appreciation of superintendents has increased.
The Friend of the Golf Course Superintendent program gives those who love golf and appreciate the key role superintendents play in enjoyment of the game the opportunity to show their support. As support for superintendents and GCSAA grows, so does its voice, and with these new opportunities, GCSAA’s voice will become stronger at the local, state, national and international level.
Friends will not receive traditional membership benefits such as access to restricted areas of the GCSAA website, voting rights, insurance benefits or tournament entry. They will receive a newsletter, information and other items to identify them as a Friend, and they will learn about GCSAA programs such as First Green, GCSAAPAC and more.
Friend memberships for individuals will be at $50, $100 and $200 levels of support. In addition, there will be a $400 memberships for groups of up to 10 people such as green committees, private club boards and more. Funds from the Friend program will go to support advocacy, turfgrass research, environmental efforts and scholarships.
Anyone who does not qualify for any another membership category but wants to support superintendents and the game of golf can become a Friend. Golfers at your course, parents of students who attend First Green events, lawmakers or others you meet through advocacy efforts or anyone who understands the many benefits the golf course brings to a community are all great potential Friends. There is even an option for groups such as green committees, private club boards or even groups of pals who golf together.
Yes! GCSAA members can play a key role in recruiting friends. As you meet and interact with golfers and others who are interested in the many benefits golf courses provide, you can let them know they can show their support by becoming a Friend. The easy-to-complete membership form is available at gcsaa.org/friend. GCSAA has also put together resources to help you promote the program. They are available in the "Friend Resouces" box on this page or you can get the materials through your regional field staff
